For those who'd rather see the Malta landscape on the back of a powerful riding horse, there's the option of country riding, or hacking. The warmer months are better suited to this kind of excursion. The Maltese have a long tradition of horse riding and horse racing. In fact, the oldest polo club in Europe can be found in Malta , as well as one of the longest horse race tracks. Typically, a hacking route starts at Marsa , where the Maltese center for equestrian facilities can be found, and on to the peaceful countryside around Siggiewi , and on to Rabat and Buskett . There are also nice routes along the northeastern coast, around Mellieha , and on Gozo island. Here is a short listing of riding schools in Malta:
